CW Hooper & Hooper |
Where we began
CW Hooper & Hooper was originally established by Charles Walter Hooper in Laidley on 14 September 1895. The business has practiced from the same building for over 119 years.
Charles Hooper grew up in the region and, after completing his legal studies in Ipswich, started the practice in Laidley. Charles also started a mortgage and money lending service that enabled many young people in the region to start in the agricultural industry. At the time of establishing the practice, it was uncommon for accountants to venture into rural areas so Charles initiated an accounting service, becoming a registered tax agent. Charles lived an impressive life in the region with his wife Eleanor (nee Parkinson) including serving two terms as Mayor of Laidley and serving as a member of the Queensland Law Society Council.

Charles’ eldest son, also named Charles and affectionately known as “Young Charlie”, was registered as a solicitor in 1926 and went into partnership with his father. Young Charlie took over CW Hooper & Hooper when his father died and also had a very successful career. He, too, was very involved in the Laidley community and donated the current clubhouse to the Laidley Bowls Club. Young Charlie worked with his sons Ken and Peter, and then with Peter, until his retirement in 1984. At 38, Peter went on to run CW Hooper & Hooper for another thirty years of valued service to the Laidley community. On 29 February 2012, Peter Hooper made the difficult decision to sell CW Hooper & Hooper. He sold the practice to his friend Mr Bill Munro, an experienced solicitor from Toowoomba. Peter remained on staff as a consultant until 30 June 2013 when he retired from legal practice. On 29 January 2015, Bill then sold the business to Pamela Wardle who had worked for Peter for approximately three and a half years and for Bill for approximately seventeen months. |
